Work is progressing on my current project, which is Book Two of my Renfield graphic novel series. The story picks up from where Renfield – Book One: Malcolm (Amazon.com) left off.
In Book One, member of Chicago gangter Frank Nitti’s gang had roughed up a man, Edward McGregor, over a gambling debt at Capone’s former headquarters, The Four Deuces. When Edward shows them a handful of gold Spanish Doubloons – and tells them there’s more in a local crypt – they agree to help him get it. Unbeknownst to them, the crypt holds a terrible secret. The vampire Malcolm McGregor – whom they inadvertently release. Malcolm promptly kills them. Their bodies are discovered the next day by two boys taking a shortcut through the cemetery to their favorite fishing spot. When their bodies reach the morgue, the assistant Medical Examiner Reginald M. Renfield, immediately realizes their deaths were the work of a vampire, as his father R. M. Renfield Sr., was murdered 35 years earlier in London by none other than Count Dracula. Eventually, Malcolm challenges Renfield to a twisted game of cat and mouse involving 30 coffins hidden throughout Chicago. If Renfield finds Malcolm and drives a stake through his heart, he wins. If not, Renfield – and countless others – will die.
In Book Two, Renfield assembles a “Vampire Squad” which includes members of the Chicago Police Dept., Frank Nitti and his Chicago Outfit, and two mysterious Romani sisters out to avenge the death of their sister Martha. It’s a race against time to destroy Malcolm and save Chicago!
